CATALYST Works
   Providing Unlimited Educational Opportunities
CATALYST makes the news in Jamaican media
. . . The programme helps students in several ways. They help the needy with school fees and train mentors. They also donated several books to the Homework Centre's library on Tower Street. But most of all what the programme seeks to do each year is prepare students for tertiary education and help them find scholarships . . .

. . . Ramone Williams, a fifth former at St. Georges College, is now a student in the programme. He is from Parade Gardens in Kingston where the homework programme operates. He is a straight 'A' student who wants to be a computer engineer. The help from Catalyst is making that dream seem possible . . .

CATALYST Expands - Coming Soon!
Chantelle Grant - People to People Student Leader
Chantelle has a stimulating chat with CATALYST Donor, Ms. Williams during the 2006 Work Trip. Chantelle has earned the honor of representing Jamaica as a Student Leader in the upcoming People to People Leadership Summit in Los Angeles, CA on July 16 to 25, 2007.

Chantelle's generosity, leadership abilities and hard work are paying off. CATALYST student, Chantelle was accepted into the People to People Student Leader program. She will join a select group of students representing their schools, communities and states as People to People Student Leaders. She has been accepted into the People to People Leadership Summit in Los Angeles, CA on July 16 to 25, 2007.

All students accepted into a People to People program met rigorous academic and leadership requirements. She was nominated and accepted for the honor based on outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential. The Summit brings together outstanding student leaders from around the globe to focus on leadership, team building, community service, college admissions and professional aspiration.

The students will work on an action plan to make a difference in their communities, develop skills to help them lead tomorrow's world and build their college resumes, while earning academic credit. They will also gain insights to guide their educational and professional careers, and benefit from a strong focus on college admissions.

Chantelle had no idea she was even being nominated for the award. It wasn’t until a letter arrived in the mail indicating she had been chosen that she found out. She was nominated after passing the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) with excellent marks.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for me as I will get an opportunity meet other people, and even earn college credit while still in secondary school."

One teacher at Chantelle’s high school commented that Chantelle has always exhibited positive qualities, and maintained a high academic standard. She goes on to say that Chantelle is respectful and reliable. Though reticent at times, she commands the respect of her peers and genuinely demonstrates a willingness to help others. It is these same qualities
CATALYST Founder, Heather Biggers recognized in her and decided that she will help Chantelle further her academics. One thing that sets Chantelle apart from most Student Leaders is the fact that she lives in a garrison community, or “the ghetto”, as it is colloquially known. This, however, has not hindered her in any way.

“That will never be an issue for me - yes, I live in the ghetto - but I'm just as good as any other student”, she said. “I have the support of my family, my teachers, my community, Grace & Staff and
CATALYST”.

She recently completed her Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams, and is in the process of applying for college. Outside of the classroom, Chantelle enjoys volleyball and interacting with others. She would like to pursue a career in the field of Engineering. The program is coordinated by People to People Ambassador Programs to fulfill the vision President Dwight D. Eisenhower had for fostering world citizenship when he founded People to People during his presidency in 1956. For additional information please visit www.lsstudentleaders.org.
