Providing Unlimited Educational Opportunities
CATALYST makes the news in Jamaican media
. . . The programme helps students in several ways. They help the needy with school fees and train mentors. They also donated several books to the Homework Centre's library on Tower Street. But most of all what the programme seeks to do each year is prepare students for tertiary education and help them find scholarships . . .
. . . Ramone Williams, a fifth former at St. Georges College, is now a student in the programme. He is from Parade Gardens in Kingston where the homework programme operates. He is a straight 'A' student who wants to be a computer engineer. The help from Catalyst is making that dream seem possible . . .

Being a part of a community where injustice is predominant, Denise feels that being a Lawyer may be her way of giving back to society. Denise works hard and continues to strive for excellence.
Denise shows off her certificate during the closing ceremony of the 2005 CATALYST Work Trip.
Unlike many of the other students of the programme, whose drive to be successful lies in the benefits that will be reaped at the end, Davia’s is her strong love for Jesus Christ. Davia is a student of Convent of Mercy (Alpha Academy High School) where her firm belief in Christ has helped her achieved a high academic standard. Recently, she was acknowledged for her academic abilities. Outside of that, she demonstrates leadership abilities in her church’s Children Ministry. She participates in track and field at her church, and volleyball at her school. Davia also enjoys spelling - she won a competition at her church, and came 3rd in another at her school. Like the other students, Davia encounters many challenges.
These challenges include the need to fit in and yet not compromise one’s morals and values, and also the prominent crime and violence in the community and the Jamaican society. However, being a firm believer of Christ, Davia knows she can handle these challenges and come out triumphant.

Pablo Vernon
Pablo is a student of Ardenne High School in St. Andrew. At Ardenne, he is currently pursuing the following subjects: Chemistry, English Language and Literature, Geography, History, Home & Family, Information Technology, Mathematics and Physics. His talents are playing football - he is keeper for his school’s team, and playing chess. Pablo gives his all in everything he does, no matter what others say. It is this persevering attitude, which makes Pablo different from all the other CATALYST students. It is also with this trait that he hopes to be a Pilot.
William Mitchell
He attends Campion College High School where he does a variety of subjects. He considers himself very special.
When asked why, this was his reply, “ The main thing that makes me special is the fact that I am unique. My interests, likes and dislikes differentiate me from others. I attend one of the most prestigious schools in Jamaica and, coming from the inner city, that is a great honour. I like to make people laugh. I like to rap with my friends, hang out, play video games and I love a good challenge. I am an athletic person as well as very intelligent. Coming from the inner city, one of the main things I have to deal with is the crime and violence in the community, and I think I am special for not allowing it to deter me from a proper education. I am determined to get out of the inner city through hard work and that is what makes me special, and in the end I will be able to help others.”
William hopes to pursue a career in the field of Business. Recently, he signed on to assist Ramone C. Williams with the maintainance of the CATALYST website.
