CATALYST Works
   Providing Unlimited Educational Opportunities
CATALYST makes the news in Jamaican media
. . . The programme helps students in several ways. They help the needy with school fees and train mentors. They also donated several books to the Homework Centre's library on Tower Street. But most of all what the programme seeks to do each year is prepare students for tertiary education and help them find scholarships . . .

. . . Ramone Williams, a fifth former at St. Georges College, is now a student in the programme. He is from Parade Gardens in Kingston where the homework programme operates. He is a straight 'A' student who wants to be a computer engineer. The help from Catalyst is making that dream seem possible . . .

Delmar Francis

Delmar (in blue) makes a quick note during the first SAT class last week.
Delmar is a student of Jamaica College. He is friendly, reasonable and has the ability to make people laugh, though he can be quite shy. Delmar says he is unique as he is able to manage his academics and his athletics - he plays cricket.

In his essay for the 2007 "It's All About Me" Essay Competition, Delmar revealed that he is currently facing a life threatening problem at home, in addition to the untimely death of his best friend, Hartnell.

He goes on to say that, "These unfortunate incidents have allowed me to live each day as if it is the last days of my life. I am currently seeking a way out; I do not know exactly where, but I think I have an idea of how. It has always been a dream of mine to be a Pilot, while playing cricket on the side for the West Indies. My friend, Hartnel had the same dream. And it was just four days before both of us were going to attend the aviation class taught by our coach. His death has only allowed me to pursue my dreams even more".

Like most of the students, he is preparing for his CSEC examinations and is about to commence the college application process.

CATALYST, Grace & Staff and the First Congregational Church are all supporting Delmar in his time of worry, and we pray that it has a peaceful and happy resolution.
