Providing Unlimited Educational Opportunities
CATALYST makes the news in Jamaican media
. . . The programme helps students in several ways. They help the needy with school fees and train mentors. They also donated several books to the Homework Centre's library on Tower Street. But most of all what the programme seeks to do each year is prepare students for tertiary education and help them find scholarships . . .
. . . Ramone Williams, a fifth former at St. Georges College, is now a student in the programme. He is from Parade Gardens in Kingston where the homework programme operates. He is a straight 'A' student who wants to be a computer engineer. The help from Catalyst is making that dream seem possible . . .

CATALYST Expands - Coming Soon!
Chantelle Grant
Chantelle has a stimulating chat with CATALYST Donor, Ms. Williams during the 2006 Work Trip. Chantelle has earned the honor of representing Jamaica as a Student Leader in the upcoming People to People Leadership Summit in Los Angeles, CA on July 16 to 25, 2007.
Chantelle is an exceptional and well-rounded student. She excels in whatever task she puts her mind and effort to. She is a Grade 11 pupil at Campion College - one of Jamaica's elite secondary academic institutions, where she is pursuing subjects such as; English Literature, Spanish, Mathematics, Geography, Information Technology, Technical Drawing and Art. Her favorite are Spanish, Geography and Technical Drawing. At the moment, Chantelle is preparing for her CSEC exams, and one can expect her to perform very well. She is a well-rounded student as she is involved in several activities, both in her community and at her school, in addition to her studies.
Chantelle has been the captain of the Girls' Volleyball team at school for the past two years, where she assume the responsibilities of preparing match items, reminding team members of matches and practice sessions, and most importantly, motivating and leading her team. According to Chantelle, during her first year of captaincy, “the team lacked self-confidence and failed to notice the potential they had that could've enabled them to play the sport and actually be the best.
"They have helped me to become a more outspoken and social person prior to the shy and extremely quiet person I was. The team has helped me to show and build up on my leadership capabilities as I motivate them and help each one to improve their game", she often says.
In her community, she is assistant treasurer for her church’s Youth Fellowship division. With all the responsibility Chantelle has taken up on herself, one could only expect her to slow down. This was not the case, however. This academic year, she took up a new activity - Girl Guides (the feminine version of Boys' Scout in Jamaica). In addition, Chantelle was accepted into the People to People program - an International Leadership initiative, and was invited to the Leadership Summit in Los Angeles, CA on July 16 to 25, 2007. Payments were courtesy of the Grace & Staff Community Development Foundation and the CATALYST Mission Relationship.
Chantelle, who is in the process of applying to several American colleges, is still undecided as to what career field she will pursue in the future.
“It’s a battle between being an Architect, an Engineer and a Pilot”.
No matter what she decides, Team CATALYST is behind 100 per cent.
Chantol Dormer
Chantol is another well-rounded student, who attends St. Hugh’s High School. Her favorite subjects are Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology, which she has received numerous awards for her outstanding performance in.
“Aim for the stars” is a phrase that keeps Chantol on her toes.
“I made this my motto because to me it meant that there is no limit to what I can achieve. Therefore I let no one tell me I cannot do something, because no matter how great or small the task may be I will do it to the best of my ability”.
In her leisure time, she enjoys watching the television, listening to music, dancing, singing, acting and writing poems. She considers herself to be sociable, very dramatic and humorous.
“I like making people smile as a smile is one suite you wear that never gets old. What makes me stand out . . .
